MANCHESTER, NH
Description:
What problem did the client want to solve with the project?
This was a townhouse, so space was limited. In addition to simply updating and ‘prettying’ it up, these clients were looking to maximize every inch of space for storage/use, in a way that didn’t clutter things up or make things too tight.
How did you solve the problem?
- Utilized several custom storage options (i.e. toe kick pull out, countertop appliance nook)
- Open shelving over upper cabinets to open the space
- Consistent hardwood flooring through the entire main floor to create a nicer and larger flow of space
Project Details:
Part of a first-floor remodel, the Bodwell Kitchen was small in size but incorporated so many details! These homeowners came to us looking for help with maximizing their space (and counter space), while elevating the overall aesthetic design.
In remodeling a smaller space, capitalizing on every opportunity for storage and not making the space feel heavy is key. With the Bodwell Kitchen, we incorporated custom cabinets to hide small appliances, a toe kick drawer, built-in bench seating and floating shelves. This helped keep the countertops accessible and clutter free, and created an openness to the space by not incorporating chunky cabinets or furniture. Lastly, we utilized a sleek vented range hood with a fully tiled backsplash and hardwood floors with matching floor registers throughout the entire first level to help draw and extend the eye while creating a nice flow between spaces.
An important but seemingly invisible build detail on this project was the releveling of the ceiling. This is a key step that’s standard on most of our projects because it allows you to achieve a consistent reveal of the crown molding. Without replacing and re-leveling walls or ceilings, this can cause pieces to become unlevel as natural settling and flexing occurs down the road.
