What problem did the client want to solve with the project?
They lacked organization when it came to the kid’s stuff and had zero space for Mom to exercise (her exercise equipment was spread throughout random rooms of the house). The basement area was also pretty dark and lacked natural light.
How did you solve the problem?
- Set of four custom built-ins to organize the kid’s stuff
- Dedicated fitness area for mom that’s bright and open
- Added a half bath that’s easily accessible to their outdoor space
- Increased window sizes and added a full light door

As a whole, this finished basement now has a simple, clean and sophisticated feel to it. A busy family with four young kids, these Clients were seeking a solution to keeping their stuff organized and tidy, having a dedicated fitness area and generally making the space brighter and more inviting.
Key design focused and functional elements that we brought into the space:
- Scope: Finished basement to include a dedicated fitness area, custom built-in cubbies, half bath and a custom built white oak mirror.
- By changing the existing walk-out door to a full light option and increasing the window size in the fitness area, we were first able to bring more natural light into the space – which was further enhanced with dimmable recessed lighting.
- A beautiful (yet purposeful) design element, we incorporated a full height custom built white oak mirror and complimentary wall sconces.
- Showcasing a design forward green color and bronze finish hardware, the custom built cubbies were a real show stopper.
