MERRIMACK, NH
Description:
What problem did the client want to solve with the project?
They had a pressure treated wood deck that was falling apart and didn’t fit the style of the house at all. They also had an existing upper level patio that they wanted to merge with the lower level yard somehow.

- Seamlessly blended the upper hardscape with the lower level by adding a set of stairs and lower level patio in the same block/pattern that was used previously
- Built a new larger composite deck with a full dry space system beneath
Materials Used:
- Deckorators Voyage decking
- In-Lite Global low voltage lighting
- Versatex Building Products PVC ceiling
- Westlake Royal PVC trim
- Trex composite railings
- Camo hidden deck fasteners
- G-Tape flashing tape
Project Details:
We designed this space to provide Outdoor Enjoyment, Rain or Shine. A beautiful property already, we focused on enhancing the functionality and aesthetic of the space in a way that blended with the existing space, yet gave the homeowner more.
Starting with the front of the house, we replaced the existing farmers porch with a new one built with mineral based composite decking. To match the front porch, we constructed a tall deck with a contrasting border off the back of the house, perfect for taking in the property’s expansive views. This deck was completed with composite railings and low voltage lighting in the stair risers and post caps.
But the best feature of this space was actually underneath the deck! With a new connecting hardscape walkway, stairs and lower patio, we maximized the functionality of this space by incorporating a dry space system and overhead lighting. A key element, the dry space system utilizes a rubber bladder system to catch any rainfall and gutters that diverts to an appropriate space for drainage, making underneath the deck a fully functional space for relaxing or entertaining.
- Scope: Front porch, hardscape patio/stairs and a composite deck with a dry space system below.
- Custom dryspace bladder system – collects and diverts rain, allowing for a fully finished and usable space underneath the deck.
- Blended a new set of hardscape stairs and patio area with an existing upper level patio.
- Parents now have an area to hang out and watch their kids play in the yard.
