What problem did the client want to solve with the project?
This Client had a failing and unsafe deck that needed to be replaced – they have children and dogs on the property all the time so worrying about the structural safety was not an option. Furthermore, they spend a lot of time outside so they wanted to maximize their space both above and below the deck.
How did you solve the problem?
- Brand new mineral based composite deck (Deckorators Voyage line)
- Built with Fortress Building Products steel framing system – wrapped columns
- Low voltage lighting – stair risers and post caps – adds ambiance and safety while enjoying the space in the evening (In-Lite for the risers)
- Given that they spend a lot of time outdoors, we maximized their usable space by incorporating a custom built dry-space system beneath the deck
- Finished UFP Edge ceiling
Project Details:
This property is home to a busy family who loves spending time outdoors. With expansive views and serene natural surroundings, the goal was to create a long-lasting deck that would harmonize with the landscape while offering a relaxing, durable, and low-maintenance retreat.
This project features mineral-based composite decking, a high-performance material selected for its durability and weather-resistant properties. Paired with a sturdy galvanized steel frame, this deck is built to last, standing up beautifully to New England’s varied climate. For a touch of evening elegance and safety, we integrated low-voltage lighting into the stair risers and post-caps, creating a warm ambiance that extends the use of the space well into the night.
A dry-space bladder system was installed beneath the deck to keep the area underneath dry, further expanding the functionality of the space. Each design choice was made with the family’s love for the outdoors in mind, resulting in a functional, comfortable, and inviting outdoor oasis.
